We are a group of Americans, Spaniards, French, and many others who are living and studying at the Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies (YCMES) – located in Sana’a, Yemen. We hope that the blog will give you a sense of the sights, sounds and smells we experience everyday, as well as our many Yemeni friends and neighbors.

Most of us are here in Sana’a to study Arabic and the contemporary Middle East, although some of us are researchers and scholars. We hope that you enjoy our blog, and please feel free to contact us if you’d like to join us in Yemen.

If you want to stay in touch, join us on the YCMES Facebook page!

    Hey guys!

I am a student that will be coming there for the second and third language intensive spring semester periods. I was very curious about what you guys were experiencing locally in regards to the protests that are taking place.

    • Hi there! While many countries in the region are certainly experiencing great upheavals, the protests that have occurred in Yemen have been rather small. Until now, they have been confined to the campus of Sana’a university, and shut down pretty quickly. Despite the efforts of some, it seems that politically Yemen won’t be changing any time soon. Of course, it is still a fascinating time to be in the Middle East, and we look forward to having you here soon! If you want to talk more on the issue, or anything regarding the YCMES, feel free to drop me a line – danielle@ycmes.org
